Enjoy painting lively landscape watercolors, with this 6-online session watercolor course dedicated to explore and practice methods and techniques aimed to improve your technical skills, obtain clean and vibrant colors, paint more efficiently and confidently. These skills will be also particularly useful when working outdoors, for both quick or extended sessions or applied to painting any subject in watercolor.

During each 3-hour painting session, we will aim to create 1 small study and a larger, more finished watercolor, working from photographic references of a variety of landscapes that I will provide. We will also copy a few paintings by artworks by Master watercolorists such as Wyeth, Turner, Hopper, to explore and promote creativity and develop our personal artistic voice.

Each session will start with a quick, small watercolor study, to establish the composition, the color palette and the technique to employ when painting the larger work that will follow.

Because the photographic references of the landscapes I will provide for these sessions are my own, we can use them to create original watercolors that you can enter in painting competitions or start to produce a body of work, without problems of copyright infringement.

Materials list

• Paint: cadmium red medium, alizarine crimson, cadmium yellow lemon, cadmium yellow medium, earth red, (Indian red, Venetian red or burnt Sienna) yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, ultramarine violet, black, burnt umber, sepia, cobalt blue, cobalt violet, sap green, Hooker’s green, and any other colors you might already have
• Paper: a pad (12” by 16” or so) of cold press paper. You can also purchase a few sheets of watercolor paper and cut it to size.
• Brushes: #2 and #8 or 10, round. You can use synthetic or natural sables (Kolinsky or red sable), a flat, synthetic brush, about ¾ “will do.
