Tuscany Workshop Summer 2024

New Renaissance Atelier

13-21 June 2024

Dear Artists,
How about a landscape workshop in Tuscany with the New Renaissance Atelier?
We are organizing the Summer 2024 workshop to be held in June in Castagneto Carducci, a lovely countryside location very close to the shore. The subject of the workshop is landscape painting in watercolor, oil or acrylic.
We will have the opportunity to paint a great variety of beautiful landscapes: country roads lined with elegant cypresses, marine landscapes framed by tall maritime pines, millenary, gnarly olive trees, and finally visit and paint the many medieval villages that dot the Tuscan countryside., such as San GalganoBarattiPopulonia.
Two day-long field trips are included, one to Siena and one to San Gimignano. We will also direct our attention toward the Tuscan cuisine...

What images come to mind when we think of the Tuscan countryside?

Medieval towns encircled by walls and bristling with towers that you feel compelled to paint. Country roads, lined with tall, thin cypresses, winding through a timeless hilly landscape. Soul-reaching cuisine that will make you cry, but in a good way. Vineyards and wineries where you stopped for a drink but you also found your soulmate.

But are all these places real or is this a Hollywood-induced dream?

One way to find out is to sign up for the painting workshop in Castagneto Carducci I am here proposing.

Castagneto Carducci is a small village in the Province of Livorno, near the Tyrrhenian sea and the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, named after the poet and Nobel Prize recipient Giosue’ Carducci. During the 8 days of this workshop, the participants will have the opportunity to paint in oil, watercolor or gouache, sketching in their favorite medium and photograph subjects ranging from bucolic landscapes, medieval towns and villages, marine landscapes.

We will be staying at the “Il vecchio ulivo”, an Agriturismo (Airbnb) named after the 1,500 years old olive tree that can be found in the property, located only a few miles from the sea and Castagneto Carducci.

Each day we will drive to a different location, choosing from places like Volterra, Monteriggioni, San Galgano, the famous cypress lined road that will drive us to Bolgheri.

Or beautiful localities along the shore like Populonia and Baratti or the beautiful Elba island, where Napoleon was briefly imprisoned.

Two days will be devoted to field trips, one to lovely Siena, historical rival of Florence, home to the relics of Saint Catherine and the famous Palio. Here we will also have the opportunity to visit art museums, walk through a well preserved medieval town, enjoy the delicious local cuisine

A second field trip will bring us to San Gimignano, a medieval town with Etruscan origin that will also be one of our painting destinations.

This workshop is a great opportunity for the beginner to intermediate artists to paint landscapes in watercolor, oil or your favorite medium, to develop your technical abilities, or to create a body of work for your next show.
