This online, 6 session course is dedicated to “virtually” painting in plein air. OK, that sounds pretty much like the definition of contradiction in terms!

Summer is a fabulous season for painting in plein air, the days are long, the world is full of bright colors and the weather is… well yes, sometimes it’s hot but better than windy, rainy and cold.

But in order to enjoy painting outdoors, we need to know how to organize our painting sessions. Imagine this: we go out, full of enthusiasm and artistic passion, we set up the easel in the perfect spot but then we realize that the landscape in front of us is simply overwhelming: where do we start?

During this course, we will paint a variety of landscapes from photographic references that I will provide, we will also discuss strategies for plein air painting, such as composition, preliminary sketches, how to use view finders, tonal studies and practice a variety of watercolor approaches for landscape painting: wet on wet and wet on dry, use of a limited palette, textures and finally materials.
