The Figure in Movement and Foreshortening #293

The many forms and poses the body can assume when in movement are an infinite source of inspiration and amazement. In order to capture the complexity of its forms in movement, its aesthetic dynamism and expressive qualities, employing various types of conceptualization of the human figure is of great help.

In this 6-sessions, online course, we will follow a method that will give us access to the various structural and anatomical aspects of the human form, thus enabling us to capture its elegance when in movement.

Gesture drawing, foreshortening, lines of flow, lines of action, dynamic pathways of the body, the figure in space, narrative and composition, are the various approaches we will use to interpret the figure in movement.

During each 2-hour session, we will be working from photographic references of models and Master’s works I will provide, using media and techniques historically associated with figure drawing. We will also explore creative technical solutions to promote personal artistic research. Various techniques and media will also be explored in term of their inherent expressive and aesthetic qualities.
