Block figures: how to quickly and correctly block in the main volumes of the human figure in a variety of poses.
The human figure can be incredibly satisfying to draw, provided we understand a few basic but essential characteristics of the body: proportional relationships and volumes.
Drawing the human figure starting with a series of essential volumes that are in a correct proportional relationship makes drawing the figure so much more fun and easier.
This type of conceptualization of the human figure is called Stereometry, but the more colloquial term used is block figures: it is a quite old method, but still very much used by, artists and illustrators.
This session is dedicated to practicing drawing the female figure in a variety of poses, creating quick sketches with dry media on with and /or toned paper. As per all my New Renaissance Atelier courses, the recording of this session will be sent to the students.
Bring toned paper of your choice, graphite pencils, charcoal and chalk, colored pencils, kneaded erasers, and pencil sharpeners. You can also use markers or ballpoint pens.
