Portrait Drawing Boot Camp at The Plastic Club

In this one day, six-hour workshop, held at the historical Philadelphia Plastic Club, the participants will spend one day practicing drawing a portrait from life, using one of the most effective techniques for this subject: charcoal and chalk on toned paper.

I will also give a number of short demos during the model’s breaks, to discuss fundamental aspects of portrait drawing, such as structure and planes of the head, tonal rendering effect of the light on the forms of the face, technical aspects of charcoal and chalk on toned paper. Each participant will be followed individually and given personalized comments on technique and methods.
