Figure Drawing Master Class #285

This Master Class is designed to give you the fundamental knowledge and technical skills for the artist interested in Figure Drawing and necessary to progress in increasing the quality of your artworks. Learn measuring, hatching, shading techniques, practice a variety of historical techniques copying and analyzing master works, develop your own style copying models from photographic references, learn to “read” the human figure and progress from copying to Understanding the beautiful complexity of the human form.

A variety of materials will also be discussed, such as types of paper, drawing implements, how to prepare various types of drawing surfaces and more, important body of knowledge to explore new artistic and expressive possibilities.

The lessons will be recorded and you will receive a link to the recording to watch the drawing sessions again at your leisure and as many times as you want, for one year. This way you can decide if draw along with me during the session, or just enjoy the demonstration first, and watch it again later at your convenience.

Materials

  • Graphite pencils in 4B, 2B, B, HB gradations;
  • Drawing paper: a pad of Strathmore Drawing, series 400, 12” by 18” or 11” by 14” or Strathmore Bristol medium surface series 300, 11” by 14”.
  • Blending stump, erasers (mars plastic, kneaded eraser, Chamois, General’s Factis mechanical eraser or Tombows Mono Zero mechanical eraser.
  • Sharpening tools and sand paper
  • Gray or tan toned paper, Strathmore charcoal will do but you can also try Canson, Mi teintes, Fabriano, Hahnemuhle, Stonhenge
  • Compressed Charcoal pencils. Generals (in hard, medium, soft and extra soft gradations) is a good and cheap brand, Wolff’s Carbon (B, 2B, 4B, 6B) is excellent but a little more expensive.
  • White chalk in pencils or sticks,

Formally trained as a medical illustrator before becoming a fine artist, Osti has contributed his work to many science and art publications. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries in Europe and the United States. He is the author of Basic Human Anatomy (2016), an art instruction best seller and classic reference book, and Dynamic Human Anatomy (2021).
