Foundation Crash Course Audrey oil portrait #322

This online, Foundation Crash Course is for the artists interested in approaching painting the portraitcin oil or to further develop their painting technique, color mixing, .

During the 2-session of this course we will paint from a photographic reference of a photo of  Audrey, one of the best models active in New York, using a time-honored foundation oil painting technique utilizing a limited number of colors. Painting with a reduced number of pigments is an excellent way to discover their inherent chromatic possibilities, obtain more mixtures with fewer colors and cleaner, brighter hues.

The painting approach we will use follows a systematic didactic sequence: during the first of the two-2 ½ hour sessions, we will sketch the subject on canvas with charcoal, practicing measuring, proportions of the figure, capturing the pose. We will then block in the main areas of color to establish the chromatic identity of the painting.

The second session is dedicated to bring the artwork to finish by adding detail and careful blending and expanding its tonal and chromatic range.

This course is part of a series dedicated to painting the Figure and the Portrait in oil and it is open to all levels.
