Small Watercolor Paintings #342

Develop your overall watercolor skills with this 6 weeks online course, where we will paint a number of quick, small watercolors in a variety of subjects such as landscape, botanical, still life. We will also copy Master’s works to study their techniques and improve ours.
During each session, of the duration of 2:30 hours, we will strive to create at least 2 paintings using reference images I will provide.
The variety of subjects w will tackle will also provide us with the opportunity of practicing various technical watercolor approaches,  how to obtain textural effects, paint reflections, clouds, trees, we will also discuss about colors, color mixing, various color palettes and more

Materials
  • Watercolor paper: buy good paper, such as Arches, Winsor & Newton, Fabriano, in cold press, 140 LB. You can buy loose sheets, tha twe will cut to desired size and tape to a board, or watercolor pads.
  • Paint: we will start with the following basic palette that we will expand adding a few more pigments as the course progresses. Yellow ochre, raw Sienna, raw umber, burnt sienna, venetian red, cadmium yellow lemon, cadmium yellow medium, alizarine crimson, sap green, Hooker’s green, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, cerulean, Ultramarine violet.
  • Brushes: a round, synthetic brush, #8 or #10; a #2 round, synthetic brush; a 3/4 inch flat, synthetic brush. we will discuss more about colors and brushes and types of paper in class.

Roberto Osti teaches figure drawing and human anatomy for artists at the New York Academy of Art and the Saint Joseph University. Formally trained as a medical illustrator before becoming a fine artist, Osti has contributed his work to many science and art publications. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries in Europe and the United States. He is the author of Basic Human Anatomy (2016), an art instruction best seller and classic reference book, and Dynamic Human Anatomy (2021). His latest book , Drawing the Body has been released in December 2024.
