We can learn a lot by studying and copying Raphael’s drawings, the elegance of his style, the precision of his marks, the expressive and dynamic qualities of his figures, the anatomy, the structure, the composition…

In the 2 ½ hours of the first session of this course, we will work from some of his drawings to study his technique and style, in the second session we will work from a photographic reference of Andrea Morani, posed like one of Raphael’s drawings, to better understand and put to use his technique.

Materials:

• Drawing paper: a pad or a few sheets of good drawing paper, such as Strathmore Drawing or stratmore Bristol, or Canson, in medium finish, size about 12” by 14”or so
• Drawing material for the first session: red earth (India Red or Burnt Sienna) colored pencils, I like Faber Castell Polychromos or Caran D’Ache Pablo, but you can also use any brand you like of you are familiar with. During the first session we will discuss more Drawing materials for the second session.
• Pencil sharpeners, sand paper and, if you have it, a small box cutter.
