Online Course - Anatomy Core: Essential Anatomy
This course will give you a solid foundation in Human Anatomy and is designed to help you master the beautiful complexities of the human figure. Each session will include demonstrations and exercises on how to apply the notions discussed in class, to the practice of Figure Drawing.
This is the first of a serie of courses dedicated to the Human Anatomy for Figure Drawing, such as “Figure in movement”, Structure and Anatomy of the Head”, "Facial Expressions”, and finally, “Anatomical, Structural and Aesthetic Analysis of the Human Figure”.
This online, Human Anatomy overview course, organized in 6-three hour Zoom lessons, is specifically directed toward the needs of the artist that wants to reach the next level when drawing the figure accurately: all the anatomical and structural aspects of the Human body studied in this course, will be directly linked to the practice of Figure Drawing. The topics discussed will be: proportion, skeletal structure, landmarks of the body, superficial anatomy, external forms. All these topics will be integrated with drawing techniques and figure drawing sessions from photographic references.
This course can be of interest to the artist that needs to have a complete but essential overview of the human anatomy or a good starting point upon which eventually develop the study of the human anatomy in depth with more specific courses. Finally, it can be of interest to the student that already has experience in anatomy but needs a refresher or just practice more Figure Anatomy and Figure Drawing.
The students will receive a link to the recordings of the six Zoom lessons and will be able to watch the lessons again to review the material discussed. This feature is also very convenient for the students that cannot be present to some or any of the synchronous, online lessons.
These class recording will be permanently available to the students enrolled in the course.

Materials
Paper: Strathmore or Canson drawing paper, abut 11” by 14” or bigger. You can also use any drawing paper you already have or you are used to, but in any case, choose good quality drawing paper and not newsprint.
Graphite pencils in 2B, B, HB.
Colored pencils in black, white and red earth (sanguine, pompeian red, venetian red or indian red). Kneaded erasers, pencil erasers, Mars plastic eraser.
You will also need a few sheets (3-4) of good quality tracing paper that we will use to create layered anatomical charts, showing the progression from skeleton to superficial muscles. Tracing paper with vellum finish is best, as alternative, you can buy frosted Mylar, 3-4 sheets. It is important that you buy the frosted type because it accepts pencils, unlike the clear type. Wait to purchase the tracing paper or the Mylar, we will be discussing these two materials during the first class.
